Hi! I’m Emma.

I’m a product designer based in NYC. I like to spot problems, and solve them. I currently work at Segment, focused on designing for our self-service customers.

Why design: I grew up with a deep curiosity for life, a sense of exploration, and a desire to improve the lives of others. My background is in psychology and economics which naturally lends itself to user experience. Studying psychology enabled me to understand people and interpret the motivation behind their behavior. I broadened my analytical mindset and established strong research and problem solving skills through my study of economics. I see design as a culmination of all of my interests — solving problems and helping others by understanding people and the world in which they live. I believe that digital products shouldn’t require much effort to use; people shouldn’t have to put thought into what they’re doing. Good design, to me, is ensuring that happens. It’s about making an impact on people's lives, helping to make their everyday interactions more seamless.

What I’ve worked on: I have six years of experience working in fintech, information services, B2B, and data infrastructure. I’ve designed end-to-end experiences, including both internal and client-facing web and mobile products.

What motivates me: Knowing that there’s always more to learn and more to discover.

What I’m passionate about (aside from good design): Reading. Traveling. Writing. Drawing. Learning about people and new places. Dark chocolate. Making ~art~ out of my snapchats. Exercising and healthy eats. Mentoring other women in tech through Beyond Barnard and ADPList
